Oscar A.Olson Jr. (70) Bennettville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 13, 2017, after a day with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents Oscar and Ruth, and by son Stephen.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Marie; sons: Joel (Glenn) and Mark; grandchildren: Zoey, Noah (Samantha), Abilene, Jacob, Jolie, Josie, Elijah, and Ethan; siblings: Ruth, Melissa, and David; sister-in-law, Marcy; and many extended family and friends.
Oscar was a dedicated husband and father, a successful businessman, an avid fisherman, a member of the 2nd Squadron, 1st Armored Cavalry Regiment, and a Vietnam veteran. He served as mayor of Oak Grove, Minn. for several years and was also a long-time city council member.
Oscar was a certified NAUI scuba instructor, and a life-long member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. He loved animals, boating, singing in the choir and spending time in his garage. Oscar was a big man with a big personality and an even bigger sense of humor. He loved his wife, his children, his grandchildren, his God, and his country with his whole heart.
Funeral service is 11 a.m., Thursday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Aitkin, Minnesota. Visitation is 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Interment is in Bennettville Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Aitkin VFW and American Legion Posts.
